Down by the bay in Blue Point, the area near the Blue Point Dock, lots and lots of people lost a lot of things when Sandy came roaring into their neighborhood. Falling trees damaged buildings and cars and rising waters fooded homes, bringing upwards of a foot of water inside the living rooms and kitchens. Rugs and walls, furniture and clothing, all ruined. Any- thing in the basement was destroyed and most appliances were damaged beyond repair. “I’m not complaining”, said Toni-Anne who lives on Ocean Ave. “I got a little water inside. Some of these people, their whole house is destroyed.” She just kind of looked around. “Tere’s a pond back there. It came into their houses. Tey lost everything” ...and the angel shows the guy what happens if he isn’t around. Showed him what things would be like if he hadn’t been born... It’s Wednesday, the day afer. Toni- Anne went over to check on Franny, her neighbor across the street. One of the people with the pond out back. You know Franny. Or you know of BBP Schools Work to Assist Families in Need The holiday season is often a diffcult one for those struggling, a fact that has become even more apparent this year as many Long Islanders fnd themselves in need of assistance due in large part to the recent hurricane. Looking to help those in the local communities as well as ones in far-reaching neighborhoods, the Bayport- Blue Point School District coordinated several relief efforts in November. From food to supply drives, district students and staff members once again demonstrated the caring nature of the schools. Time To Move On BBPHS Boys Varsity Soccer Coaches Step Down By Bob Falkenburgh Long time BBPHS Boy’s Varsity Soccer Coach Jim Moc- cio and Assistant Coach Greg Zaleski have recently announced that they were step- ping aside after a successful 11 year run together. Coach Moccio (“Mocc”) took over the boy’s varsity program in 1998, and Coach Zaleski (“Z”) joined him on the pitch in 2001, forming one of Suffolk County’s most well respected coaching tandems. Citing the need to have more time to spend with their families, both coaches decided together that it was time to walk away from the game they both love so much. “We started to discuss stepping down last spring” said Coach Z. “The bottom line is that we both needed more family time. It was time to turn the page” he stated. “I absolutely love coaching soccer, but I didn’t want to sac- rifce as either a coach or as a parent. Both jobs require a full time commitment” stated Coach Moccio. “Coach Z and I have become family together; our families are growing… It’s hard to do both jobs properly” said Mr. Moccio. “We’re both a little sad; we really loved this… It’s been a lot of fun!” In Coach Moccio’s 14 year tenure, The Phantoms’ Boys Soccer program has grown in leaps and bounds. Their record of 7 playoff seasons, 1 League Championship (2005), and 2 appearances in the Suffolk County fnals (2004 & 2008) are testaments to all of the hard work put forth by the two coaches A Merry Holiday Season in Town By Lenore Ringer Prezioso Tis the season for merriment and good cheer as the season offcially began with the Bayport-Blue Point Chamber of Commerce Christmas Tree Lighting at Blue Point Elementary School last week.
