Switching all your policies to one well-respected insurer might save you time and money, not to mention the convenience of having only one number to call for questions or claims. Many insurance companies offer a range of discounts that vary by state. Be sure to ask the agent about the availability and amount of any discounts offered by the insurer. Here are some common discounts you should know about: • Multiple line: Your premiums may be reduced if you have more than one policy with the same company or family of companies that covers your car. • Good student: Full-time students (high school or higher) maintaining at least a “ B ” average may qualify for reduced premiums. • Multiple car: Your premiums may be reduced if there are two or more private-passeNger cars in the household insured by the same company or family of companies. Elementary School Principal Susan Bergmann led her faculty and student body in a solemn and respectful memorial service to note the 5th Anniversary of the September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks. As the memories of 9/11/01 remain all too fresh and painful for all Americans, it was important to Mrs. Bergmann and her staff to remind the children of the day ’ s significance without highlighting the hurt. The day began with a moment of silence and the students were allowed to enter the main corridor to sing The National Anthem, God Bless America, and America the Beautiful in unison. The flag outside of the building was flown at half mast to honor all of those that lost their lives on that terrible and historic day. Later in the morning the 5th grade students left the building to attend a small memorial service at the 9/11 “ Remembrance Garden ” that is situated along the parking lot at the north end of the Sylvan Av. school grounds. The “ Remembrance Garden ” was built on the 1st Anniversary of 9/11 as a true community project. The garden is designed in the shape of a pentagon to repre- sent those lost in the attack on The Pentagon Building in Washington, D.C. At the center of the garden stand 2 tall evergreens to remind us of the twin towers of The World Trade Center. Finally, there are small bushes planted in the shape of a 93 at the base of the evergreens to honor the brave passengers of Flight 93 that crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. In addition, on 9/11/02, every Sylvan Av. student and staff member planted a daffodil bulb in memory of all of those that were killed that day. Each spring the daffodils bloom to remind us that beauty and hope can and do return even after our darkest hours. The visit to the “ Remembrance Garden ” allowed all of Mrs. Burke ’ s, Ms. Reidell ’ s, and Mrs. Loeffler ’ s students the opportunity to reflect, remember, and discuss the significance of the cowardly attacks on our freedom. It is important that we all recall how we felt on that day. Our anger and sorrow were quickly replaced with feelings of national pride and an intense desire to help out our fellow man in some way. Political, ethnic, and religious backgrounds were overlooked as we all sensed this great feeling of togetherness. In a very low key and positive manner, the staff at Sylvan Av. Elementary School were able to remind their students to look back and never forget the historic events of 9/11/01.
