Bayport-Blue Point Gazette . . . em ail us at t o m reid1 1 @yahoo.com 16 Letters to the Editor Responses to Seth Needelman ’ s article about shopping local • You sure hit a nerve with your last blast e-mail. Good work. Shopping local is of vital importance. Yes it is possible for you to pay a penny more, however the customer service and personal attention are more than worth the possible extra cost. Charlie • Nicely put Seth. We just got back from a family vacation in New England, where it seems every small-town paper I read had a story about the plight of the Mom and Pop businesses battling the big box stores. Many communities seem to be banding together to fight against these mega-stores which have no community roots, but rather corporate profits as their motive. These small towns are literally fighting for their lives to preserve their unique character against the onslaught of the monolithic giant corporations. Let's hope the locals are able to come together to support one another and preserve what is theirs! -Bob Draffin, Bayport Civic Assoc.President • Seth- Great idea- Shopping local is a real estate investment for home owners. The better the local business economy, the more value homes will demand. Kathy Seff, Glass Artist • ABSOLUTELTY !!! Exactly why I continuue to work for a family owned Seaville Realty,..also why I purchase my home heating oil from the crew at Aladdin,ect.,ect., ect.,\ SUPPORT THE HOME TEAM\- Deborah Giglio • Seth, Let the truth be known. Local small businesses are the back bone of the American economy. Without the support of the local residents we all loose out. Walter, Tire Warehouse Highest Quality... Lowest Prices! Dear Community Member: The Bayport-Blue Point Phantom Football Team has been preparing all summer for the upcoming season. Official practice has just begun and the players and coaches are looking forward to a great season. The team spirit and the camaraderie that is shared by the members of the football team each season begins with our community. It has been the support and generosity of the local businesses that has kept this spirit thriving. With your assistance, the long-standing tradition of pre-game breakfasts, where parents prepare the meals, will continue. It is at these breakfasts that the team begins building a “ sense of family ” , which is demonstrated both on and off the field. With this in mind, we are asking for a donation to keep this tradition alive. The money makes it possible for the parents to purchase the food and supplies needed for each of these pre-game breakfasts. As always, we appreciate the support and spirit of the Bayport-Blue Point Community , as you support the Phantom Football Team. We thank you for your time and continued dedication. We look forward to hearing from you as well as seeing you at the football games this year Sincerely, Barbara Schwall, Betty Druhm Harrison Football Moms Please mail and make your donation payable to:Bayport-Blue Point Football Fund c/o Barbara Schwall 63 Atlantic Avenue, Blue Point, NY 11715
