Announcement of the laying of the cornerstone of the gymna sium. List of the donors. Marshal Wilson then extended a hearty invitation to all the gentlemen present to attend the smoker given a t 8 o’clock by the Gene\ a Alumni Association. The Assembly then marched under his leadership to the southeast corner of the new “gym ” upon which the cornerstone was to be placed. Dr. Stewardson intro duced Archdeacon J. Townsend Russell, ’93, of Brooklyn, one of the donors of the gymnasium, who placed the granite block in position with the following words: The happy privilege has fallen to me of performing the central act of these most interesting ceremonies. I shall be very brief. In the interest of the honest athletics, in the interest of the \highest type of Christian young manhood for generations to come, I now lay the cornerstone of the Hobart College gymnasium.” This was followed b y the singing of Prof. Charles J. Rose’s ‘Alma Mater.’’ The Rt. Rev. William David Walker, D.D., Bishop of Western New A ork, then led the Lord’s praver and pronounced the benediction. GENEVA ALUMNI SMOKER A rousing smoker, full of college spirit and good cheer was held on the evening o f Friday, Nov. 15, 1907, as a fitting close to the laying of the cornerstone of the new “gy m .” The event was given under the auspices of the Hobart Alumni Association of Geneva to the students and friends of the college. There were 150 men present and after a social hour there were col lege songs and informal addresses. Incident with the evening s festivities three cheers were given for the unknown benefactor who was induced b y the efforts of
