The Hobart Herald *73 going to keep them to the strenuous life. There are some unusually promising freshmen, and this early practice will enable them to get used to handling their sticks and get them in shape for the real work when the spring comes for good. The prospects for baseball a r e not so bright. There are many men who have announced themselves as candidates and some of them look like all wool but there is a woeful lack of pitching material. It is true, though remarkable, that, a t least so fa r as the writer knows, not one of the freshmen so far has come forth and announced the fact that he is the real thing in the pitching line. Usually there is a super abundance of this kind of material but so far we have not even seen any of this kind. Manager Callan is in frequent session with the President trying to w o rk a deal of some kind, but Prexie won’t have it and so Tommy will have to satisfy himself with what he can get right here on the ground. Still, somebody m ay develop. Let us hope for the best anyway. C o lle g e N ews M . A. L e f f i n g w e l l , Editor M rs. Charles D. V a il to whom Hobart already owes a large debt of gratitude has again shown her interest in the college by providing funds for the construction of a kitchen in the basement of Coxe Hall. Chas. W. Robinson ’84 o f Horn ells ville, has presented to the college a crayon portrait of P rof. John Fowler M .D . who was a mem ber of the Hobart faculty from 1852 to 1882. The Freshmen class have elected the following officers for the first te r m ; President, W e g n e r; Vice-President, H e u ssler; Secretary, N e a l; Treasurer, G ilb e r t ; Historian, Shaefer.
