FIELD DAY. IO 9 H E twentieth semi-annual Field Day passed off smoothly and success fully. Heavy bribes and fearful threats induced the manipulator of wind, rain and sunshine to let us have a day o f fine (?) weather for a change and for our athletic contests. A fair sprinkling of the fair sex not only enlivened matters but induced every man to do his prettiest. There was a little horse-play; the only surprise however was the running of the 100 yard dash by Searle, ’97, over Scofield, ’ 96. The time for this event was not as good as last spring by one-half second. In the pole vault Davis beat last spring's record by 11)2 inches. The records on the whole were better than those o f last May ; but it must be remembered that the 19th semi-annual Field D a y was held in a cold drizzling rain and on ground that had been soaking rain for three or four days. Phillips secured 31 points, this being the second time he secured highest number of points. The places and events are as follows : 1. One Hundred Yard Dash: Searle, first, 11)4 seconds; Scofield second. 2. Hammer Throw : Omitted. 3. Pole V a u l t : Davis, first, 8 feet, 6 inches ; Martin second. 4. 440 Yards Dash : Kirby, first, 8V seconds ; Fox, ’ 96, second. 5. One-Half Mile W a lk: Elliott, first, 5 minutes, 1312 seconds. 6. 120 Yards Hurdle : Phillips, first, 19 seconds ; Hooker, ’96, second. 7. Standing Broad Jump : Phillips, first, 9 feet, 3 inches ; Martin second. 8. One-Half Mile Run : Osborne, first, 2 minutes, 46 seconds ; Fox, ’96, second. 9. Running High Jump: Phillips, first, 5 feet, 5 inches; Martin second. 10- Putting Shot : Wakeman, first, 29 feet, 2 inches ; Martiii second. 11- 220 Yards H u r d le: Hooker, ’96, first, 30 seconds; Phillips second. 12. One Mile Bicycle Race: Thompson first.
