EDITORIAL. 75 But our reasons for playing foot ball this season are not quite so desperate a s tliis. \We are late in starting, but not so late as two years ago, and indeed last year our real work began about this time. W e have prospects for the best and heaviest rush line we have ever had, and although our material behind the line must be new there is no reason to be discouraged a t this stage o f the game. W ith hard work w e can have a team worthy of tine College and now the only question is one o f enthusiasm and support. It is the certain duty o f every man in the College to do whatever he c a n for the team, sacrificing something if necessary; and indeed the most endur ing hind of interest and most satisfying enthusiasm in any object are likely to be produced b y giving u p something for that object. That is to say the halls would hereafter be literally “ halls o f darkness,” rendered o n ly more gloom y by the excuses for gas jets now in use. N o tices informed us that this step had been taken on account of the wasteful use o f gas in previous terms. Further on it is stated that gas will he again supplied upon application without increased expense. However, when such applica
