Mr. Joseph Stockton Roddy of Princeton, wha is paying part of his expenses by the use of shorthand, says I taught myself the A merican Standard system by the aid of Scott- Browne’s text books while in a small town in Pennsylvania, and found the art of immense benefit ta me. I use it constantly in taking lectures in college and seminary -work, andcould not get along, now, without it. The main advantage is in the ability to keep up with the lec turer and so be able to get exactly what they means. I consider the American Standard the best o f the teree or four systems I have attempted to learn ” George D. Hedian of Wilkesbarre, Pa., learned shorthand during vacations and became stenographer to Bancroft, the historian, receiving $ 2 5 per week salary for morning’s work, and afternoons attended the Georgetown haw School, and after graduating began the prac tice of X,a\v and Stenography in his native town, shorthand paying his entire expenses.
