An Italian dinner will start the festivities on Friday, Nov. 11, at 5 p.m. Cost is S3.95 per adult and $2.50 per child under 12. Following the dinner, free entertainment and other activities will begin at 7:30 p.m. A pancake breakfast will be served from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12. Booths will be open throughout the day, featuring baked goods, arts and crafts. A lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. consisting of chicken soup, hot dogs, sandwiches and dessert. Chili parish series to explore conflict resolution in marriage St. Christopher's, North Chili — Resolving marital disputes can be difficult, but conflict resolution skills can give a couple a better chance of saving an unstable relationship. The parish is sponsoring a two-part series on con- flict resolution on Wednesday, Nov. 97 from 7:15-9:45 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 12, from 9-12 a.m. Dr. John W. Heister, director of the Media- tion Center of Rochester, and Dr. Dennis E. Boike, a specialist in marriage counseling, di- vorce adjustment, and family and adolescent therapy, will conduct both workshops. Par- ticipants will learn how lack of resolution skills creates tension and divorce in marriages, how to manage anger, communicate and make de- cisions involving both parties in a relationship. Next-to-new sale continues St. Margaret Mary, Rochester — The Home School Committee is sponsoring a \Next-to- New\ sale in the school basement on Thurs- day, Nov. 3,9 a.mr8 p.m., and Friday, Nov. 4, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. More than 6,000 articles of clothing for children and adults are available, according to Eileen D'Arienzo, co-chairwoman of the event. Most of the clothes are for fall and winter. Marian series continues Blessed Sacrament, Rochester — The par- ish continues its series of videotaped talks on the Blessed Virgin Mary as viewed from a non- Catholic perspective. The presentations are being given in two different series — one for the general public and one for parish ministers, clergy and staff. The talks for the general public run from 7:30-9 p.m. on Sundays, November 6,13 and 20. The talks for ministers and staff members run from 12-1:30 p.m. on November 10, 17, and 22. Topics and speakers, in the sequence they will beoffered, are: \Mary Theotokas and the Orthodox TVadition\ featuring Bishop Kalistos Ware, a lecturer at Oxford University;. \The Blessed Virgin in Jungiah Depth Psychology?' featuring Dr. Donald Dawe from Union The- ological Seminary, in Richmond, Va.; and \Mary — Undoing the Stereotype?' featuring Dr. Kathleen Storrie, professor of sociology of religion at the University of Saskatchewan. On September 11, 1988, in the Chapel of the Di- vine Word Semi- nary in East Troy, Wisconsin, Brother Jude (Joseph) Heeks, SVD, celebrated his golden jubi- lee. Born August 31,1907, in Roch- ester, Brother Jude is a graduated of St. Michael's School. He entered the Society of the Divine Word in 1936 in Techny, Illinois, taking his first vows in 1938 and his final vows in 1944. In 1951, he was transferred to East Troy to serve as organist for the new chapel. During the past 37 years, he has also served as a bookkeeper, gardener and barber. The anniversary was marked by a Mass at which Bother Heeks renewed his vows, and a reception and dinner that followed. Attending were his sister, Emma Heeks Gossen, and two nieces, Ann Deslandes and her husband, Ray- mond, and Rosemary Hahn, all of whom live in the Rochester area. Dale Glowgowski, a senior at Our Lady of Mercy High School, was one of 700 recipients nationwide of the National Council, of Teachers of English Achievement Award. Glowgowski, who was also a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist and first runner-up in the Miss Polonia Contest, won with a creative 3 essay titled \Sun and Shadow!' She currently plans to attend Clarkson University to study electrical engineering. St. Joseph's Villa has announced that CheryL Turco is the agency's new director of health services. She comes to the Villa after serving as health care coordinator for Hillside Chil- dren's Center and after working as a Monroe County community health nurse. Turco holds Neighbors a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Roberts Wesleyan College. The Sisters of Mercy of Rochester have ap- pointed Patricia Albrecht as the new director of their Associate Program. Albrecht, who suc- ceeds Sister Janet Korn, is the first lay person to hold this position for the congregation. Albrecht has been involved in lay ministry for a number of years, initiating the Women's Day of Prayer at Notre Dame Retreat House, Canandaigua. She has been on the parish council of St. John's Parish, Clyde, for four years, last year serving as council chair and trustee. She has also coordinated parish weeks of prayer, formed marriage preparation teams, and facilitated discussion on Bishop Matthew Clark's paper on women. Fire in the Thorn- bush, and the US. The Associate Program of the Sisters of Mercy of Rochester is designed for lay men and women who aim to carry the congregation's mission and spirit into their own walks of life. The program has 24 associates in the United States and 16 in South America, where the Sis- ters of Mercy of Rochester serve in Santiago, Chile. • • • Nazareth Academy has announced a num- ber of faculty and staff appointments.
