Entitled \Unplug the Christmas Ma- chine!' the workshop will explore the positive and negative connotations of Christmas with the purpose of giving participants ideas on how to plan a holiday that reflects their personal values. Healing priest to speak St. Anne's, Palmyra — Father Matthew Swizdor, a Franciscan' noted for his gift of healing, will celebrate a series of Masses at 7:30 each evening from Sunday to Thursday, Oct. 23-27. Father Swizdor has written three books on his healing ministry, emphasizing his belief that people are healed when they open their hearts to God. Everyone is invited to the serv- ices, whether or not they are sick. Week-long mission planned Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Rochester — The parish is sponsoring a mission entitled \Come to the water;' October 23-30. Eight con- secutive sessions will feature study, prayer, spe- cial liturgies and fellowship. Check-in is at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23. Parish prepares for pasta fest St. Andrew's, Rochester — The annual spaghetti dinner will take place Thursday, Nov. 3, from 11:30 a.mrl:30p.m. and 4:30-7:30 p.m. in the parish hall. Tickets are available at the rectory, through all the parish societies, and at the door. The cost is $4 for adults, $2 for students and $3 for senior citizens. Joint parish effort commences to reach out to homebound St. Francis DeSales and St. Stephen's, Gene- va — The social ministry committees of both parishes have initiated the Dove program to ex- pand parish services to homebound senior citizens. So far, more than 25 volunteers have committed to provide such services as weekly phone calls, rides to doctor appointments, shopping and banking errands, and personal support to isolated parishioners. The program was started after pastoral as- sistants and concerned laity reported a great need among the area's elderly for such serv- ices. Class of 1938 to celebrate 50th anniversary of graduation St. Joseph's, Penfield — The parish school class of 1938 will have a reunion on October 29 at 14 Fairfield Drive in Fairport. Seven Nazareth Academy students helped host the 48th annual meeting of the American Association for State and Local History, Sep- tember 13 to 18. Therese M. Riordan, assistant professor of management at St. John Fisher College, has been elected to the Rochester American Mar- keting Association board of directors for 1988-89. In June, Riordan participated in a seminar entitled, \Microcomputer Application in the Marketing Curriculum\ at Brigham Young University. Neighbors The surviving members of the Breslin fami- ly, reunited for the first time in 57 years are, seated from left, Christina Breslin Ashton and Mary Bresin (of Rochester), and, stand- ing from left, Frank BresHn, John Breslin, Anthony Breslin and James Breslin.McAl- lister. In Wilkes-Barre, Pa., o~ . .y 15-16* the sur- viving members of the Breslin family were re- united for the first time in 57 years. Separated when their mother passed away in 1931, the si- blings were adopted, lived in orphanages or with relatives or family friends, arid remained out of touch until last year. Mary Breslin and the then upcoming reunion were featured in a Courier Journal article in June. Catholic scouts and leaders from through- out the Diocese of Rochester prepare to raise the gateway to a new outdoor chapel at Kamp Koinonia. Building the chapel with logs and lashings was part of the Diocesan Scout Retreat, which took place September 23-25. The theme of the retreat, attended by more than 100 scouts, was \Jesus — the Ship of Life.\ Sister Jeanne Marie Kearse, superior gener- al of the Rochester Sisters of Mercy, Sister Elizabeth Anne LeValley, superior general of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Rochester and Sis- ter Agnes Catherine Bartersby, an SSJ adminis- trator, attended the Leadership Conference of Women Religious meeting, which took place in late August in St. Paul, Minn. Among the activities at the conference, participants ana- lyzed the first draft of Partners in the Mystery of Redemption: A PastoM Response to Wom- en's Concerns for Church and Society and dis- cussed the issue of racism.
