Hors d'oeuvres will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m., with a roast beef dinner beginning at 6 p.m. Guests are asked to bring dishes of salad, potato, vegetable or dessert to pass. Following the dinner, Warren Benjamin will present 20 minutes of slides, music and narra- tion about the Holy Land. < The evening will conclude with a recogni- tion ceremony in which two members of the parish will receive the St. Mary's Lay Minis- try Award. St. Anthony Mass scheduled Holy Cross, Rochester — A solemn Mass in honor of St. Anthony will be held in the church on Monday, June 13, at 7 p.m. Father John Nacca, pastor emeritus of St. , Francis of Assist Parish in Auburn, will cele- brate the liturgy in Italian and English. The Padre Beatini Choir will lead the congregation in singing traditional Italian sacred songs. At the end of the Mass, the congregation will process outside to the St. Anthony shrine for a final blessing. All are invited. } Festival to benefit homeless St Ambrose, Rochester — The parish will present its annual summer festival on Friday, June 10, and Saturday, June 11, from 6 to 11 p.m. In an effort to assist Rochester's homeless, the parish will donate SO percent of the net receipts from the festival to Catholic Charities for use in establishing a permanent shelter fa- cility. \ The festival will feature games of skill for children, food booths, and a disc jockey play- ing records on Saturday between 7:30 ^nd 9:30 p.m. For information, call the rectjory at (716)288-5000. Parish honors pastor St Helen's, Rochester — On Sunday, June 5, parishioners honored Father L, John Hedges, retiring pastor, and marked the 45th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood. The celebration began with social hours fol- lowing each of the morning Masses.!At the 11:30 Mass, attended by Father Hedges' fami- ly, relatives and friends, the retiring pastor was presented with a handmade stole. Parish Notes A highlight of the day's activities was a roast held in Father Hedges' honor at 1:30 p.m. in the church. Hosted by Father Dennis R. Sewar, the parish's parochial vicar, \This is Your Life, Jack Hedges!' featured humorous recollections from family, friends, parishioners, and current and former co-workers. An hors d'oeuvres reception followed in the parish center from 2:30 to 6:00 p.m. Father Hedges will continue his priestly ministry in retirement at St. Joseph Church, Penfield. Bible school teachers needed Church of the Assumption, Fairport — The parish is looking for volunteer teachers to staff its Vacation Bible School to be held August! through 5, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. '* The inter-denominational program includes Bible lessons, crafts, music and refreshments for children from four-years-old through sixth-grade. Anniversary gala slated St. Gregory, Marion/St Anne, Palmyra -^ The parishes will celebrate the 50th anniver- sary of Father Francis H. Af- ter completing a master of divinity degree at the Weston School of Theology in 1981, he pursued philosophical studies at Loyola University of Chicago and then earned a master's degree in liturgical studies at the / University of Notre Dame. ^ From 1985 to 1987 Schaller served as a coun- selor and taught religion at St. Joseph's Preparatory School in Philadelphia. During the last year, he has been engaged in studies for the licentiate in sacred theology at Weston. Schaller is scheduled to become associate cam- pus minister and director of liturgy at the University of Scranton this fall, Masses of thanksgiving will be celebrated in the Madonna della Strada Chapel at the University of Scranton on Sunday, June 12, at 3 p.m., and at St. John of Rochester Church on Sunday, June 26, at 3 p.m. ors In recognition of excellence in work perfor- mance and scholastic achievements, the Weg- mans Scholarship Program has awarded scholarships to the following Aquinas Institute students: Ellea Baechel, Andrea Caharuso, Kathleen Conpisi, Lisa Kucewicz, Stephanie MarteL Nadia Reynolds and Richard Scawan. The scholarships will cover 50 percent of the students' college tuition costs, up to $230 per year, and may be renewed for as many as four The Genesee Valley Nurses' Association has awarded Donna Del Santo, R.N., its second- annual Outstanding Nursing Administration Award, which recognizes the achievements of professional nurses in such areas as adminis- tration, research and clinical'care. Del Santo is currently a counselor at Nazareth Academy High School as well as co-director of Corpus Christ! Center, an outreach program of Cor- pus Christi Parish, which serves a variety of health needs of the working poor and people who are not eligible for other health-care programs. • • • Debra Metzger has been named director of planning at St. Mary's Hospital. She will pro- vide research and planning support to hospi- tal prdgrams while monitoring local, state and national health-care trends. A graduate of the University of Michigan's master's degree pro- gram in hospital administration and a 1985 graduate of Cornell University, Metzger comes to St. Mary's after serving as an administra- tive resident at Rochester Blue Cross and Blue Shield. • • • • The new officers of the St. Joseph's Hospi- tal Foundation, and three new members of the foundation's board of directors, were elected at meetings held May 4. James V. Clone is the new president x>f the foundation. Other new officers elected were Sister Martha Gersbach, SSJ, vice president, and Angeio FHSCO, treas- urer. Deacon Stanley J.
