N.Y.. is Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, a place of natural beauty, ail and communal prayer, direct- ed by the Barnabite Fathers. More than 100,000 pilgrims visit the outdoor shrine yearly where the religious exercises emphasized are the ones re- quested by Our Lady of Fa- tima. The shrine was willed by the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ciurczak of Niagara Falls. In 1954 they donated 15 acres of land to the Barnabite Fa- thers, subject to the condi- tion they build a shrine in honor of Our Lady of Fatima in thanksgiving for a favor received. In June 1964 it was dedicated by Most Reverend James A. McNulty of Buffalo.,. At the shrine a domed chap- stinds before a heart-shaped pool surrounded by wrought- irori lamps representing a rosary. Masses Scheduled In Lnthern Church i ScMkdl*. Minn. —(RNS)— Ro- man Catholic Masses are being celebrated this summer in Elim Lutheran Church here. They are held between the two Sunday morning services o'. the Lutheran Church in Amer- ica (LCA.) congregation. The Masses ire intended to accom- modate the many Catholic sum- mer residents in this area. An outdoor field Mass conducted for them recently at the Fran- conia church drew 300 persons. A portable altar will be brought into the Lutheran church each Sunday for the Catholic services so Father Reed can celebrate Mass facing the people. A statin 1 on top of the dome is 13 feet hi«h and over- looks the approximately 15 acres of-the shrine. Leading to the top of the dome, 50 feet high, are two flights of 85 steps each. The shrine is laid out in the fashion of an outdoor ca- thedral with the architectural characteristics of a Roman style church reflected in the outdoor side aisles leading to the main altar enshrined under the globe-like dome. Another of the scenic and spiritual highlights of the shrine is the avenues of sta- tues. More than 100 lifesize statues, made of Carrara mar- ble, represent saints from ev- ery walk of life. The Barnabite Fathers are an order of priests and broth-, ers whose foremost activity is teaching. They envision the Shrine to Our Lady of Fatima as a center of Marian de- votion. They have a newly built seminary on the grounds and there is also a convent for the Angelic Sisters of St. Paul. To reach the shrine from Rochester, take the Thruway west- to Exit, 50 (Buffalo). Then take Yoimgman Hlgh- wa^ (Route 290) to Route 190 across Grand Island Bridge to Route 104 East to Route 18 East to Swan Road.
