PAGE 6 THE WORD DECEMBER, 1966 SPORTS J.C.C. vs. S.L.U. November 1st found our bas- ketball team in Canton, matching, and surprisingly equally, with the Larries of St. Lawrence. This scrimmage was our first oppor- tunity to see our guys in action and we think they were quite im- pressive. Following a rather rough 1st period, our offense began to jell and smooth itself out. We found ourselves with scoring op- portunities all over the floor, but could capitalize on only a small percentage. Perhaps a bit more concentration on shooting prac- tice would be in order. We play a thrilling game, a fast breaking game. Perhaps even too fast, for while a great number of Larry scores came on the break, only a very few of ours resulted from other than a slower, sys- tematic working of the ball. Olin Mack is tough on the boards and is no slouch in the scoring department either, as his ,16 points in field goals alone would show. Fran Clark is the kind of player about whom is said with a sigh, «If he were only 10 inches taller!\ He's super fast, a top shooter, and one helluva play ma- ker. Mr. Valentine seemed quite satisfied with the scrimmage, saying that he is optimistic about the coming season. Moberly Junior College, the National Junior College champs, will swing through Watertown on its eastern tour on November 30th. With your support, and only with your support, we could conceivably blacken their record. Our team will represent us — we should support them. Should we not, our team will represent nobody, and it is obvious then what our college will appear to be. Basketball is fun to watch, es- pecially if a quality brand of the game is being played. On the 30th, let's pack the Camp Drum Field House with J.C.C. students so that our men may play with the in- spiration they need to knock Mo- berly off its pedestal. Sarge Frappier struggles for a rebound against the S.L.U. Frosh as Olin Mack and Bob Stromen set for any possible openings. An intent Coach Valentine and the rest of the Cannoneers watch from the bench.
