DECEMBER, 1966 THE WORD PAGE 5 Outing Club News •• m ••> WB tsm «H mm um mm mm tmm •• •• mm •• •• SLEEPING BY WOODS ON A SNOWY EVENING OR The Kee Kee Bird Strikes Ajjai Thirty-eight devoted overnight campers entered the world's lar- gest refrigerator (Adirondack State Park) late last month. Blessed with favorable weather conditions (snow, high winds, etc.), the campers reached Marcy Dam in late afternoon after a three-mile stroll. While several campers attempted Mount Colden (unsuccessfully) and straggled back one by one, others climbed Mount Marcy, spending the night there. Still others, trying to re- member what warmth felt like, climbed in their sleeping bags or found other ways to keep warm, while Floyd Marino and Mike Corbett ran around shirt- less during a snowstorm. Did they really think it was warm? Friendly groups huddled around campfires until 3:00 a.m., call- ing each other on transceivers provided by GIG Associates. While we attempted to sing songs between the sheets, the calm- ness of night was broken by only occasional wolf howls, except at Camp #6, which received a social call from the Ghost of Marcy Dam, and the march of anchovy armies. Leantos designed for six were filled with up to fifteen people, thus promoting warmth. Experienced campers were pre- pared for breakfast and flipped pancakes in near zero tempera- tures, along with sausage, bacon, eggs, perked coffee, and other good things. Most of the group then wandered to Avalanche Pass, while a skeleton crew left to watch the camps tried to melt frozen cans of what was once nourishing liquid. Small groups then trekked back to the bus. The trip back to college was uneventful except for a brief stop in Tupper Lake. EVEREST NEXT!!! The freshmen proved to be the sharpest of the group and won the prize, a roll of toilet paper. In clinical practice we've advanced accordingly to schedule in the care of the helpless patient. This last week we've practiced the segment concerning meals and the pre-meal preparation of the patient.
