JEFFERSON COMMUNITY COLLEGE NEWS Volume 1 Number 3 December 4, 1964 Newspaper Staff Editor: Suzi Simpkins Features Editor: Cathy Anderson Assistant Editor: Sharon Youngs Staff: Jo Ann Marino, Garry Meyers, Ken Brown, Mike Reilly, David Shirley, Cynthia Phippen, Barbara Koch, Donna Ford Typists: Sarah O'Brien, Donna Matthews, Diane Fisher, Donna Miller, Donna Needell, Lynn Hall, Kathy King, Cheryl Lansdowne, Regina Gillette (Advanced Shorthand and Typing Classes) Faculty Advisor: Mr. G. Wetterhahn EDITORIAL Now that we've all been back from Thanksgiving vacation for about a week, the mad panic over marks is starting. Unfortunately, along with this sudden urge to excel, comes an urge to cheat. All the exams are going to be difficult, but cheating won't make them any easier. It will only increase your chances of failure. There are any number of moral wrongs that cheating could be list- ed under, but if this fact hasn't impressed anyone yet it really isn't likely to. It will probably only instill a spirit of growing revolt to say that if you're caught, they'll kick you out of school. The best argument against cheating on exams is the final result it has on the grades. If a typically ingenious student sets his mind to it he can cheat successfully (not get caught), and will probably pass. But what has he.learned? Not one thing. And what will he do when the finals come around? Cheat again? It's not a very good way to get an education. It's been noticed by both the faculty and the students of this school that cheating is spreading like a disease. When cheating be- comes so r-r<---p. .lent that it is brought to the attention of the Dean by the pj'j;::: -,7-s, it's time for the student body, as a whole, to cor- rect this situation through their own personal actions and through criticism of their peers. Just remember when you cheat, you not only cheat the teachers, you cheat yourself. Suzi Simpkins We,-of the Jefferson Community College Newspaper Staff, are tak- ing this opportunity to wish all of you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We hope you will have an enjoy- able\ vacat::.cn~-and will be ready to return to J.C.C. prepared to hit those final examinations.
