These are all feelings that the people working at WPLT have experienced when the term FM has been mentioned. Reality is April 27th at 4 p.m., when WPLT will begin broadcasting FM under the FCC rules covering program test authority. Twelve years ago the first steps towards bringing FM to Pittsburgh State were envisioned. The road has been long and arduous indeed, a struggle over the years for ill hvolved. Many people have expended great energies to see this day arrive. Hopefully they will be here in spirit or person. We would like to take this time to thank everyone from the current staff down througti previous staffs, SA administrations, school administrators, community backers, Mr. Wallace Johnson of the FCC as well as all others who have aided in making open air FM, a reality at Pittsburgh State. WPLT will be Pittsburgh's alternative, reflecting the desires and needs of the *mpus, community and the region. The \Sound of the North Country\ will offer a variety of programs ranging from! educational and public affairs to the current 1 trends of music today. j Some of us still can't believe FM is' happening. Delays have consistently arisen! via red tape, construction modifications and technical delays. All WPLT can ask is that the public appreciate the efforts of those who] have worked so hard to bring FM to Pittsburgh. The staff of WPLT have been consistently improving the quality of the programming which will be broadcast to you| on FM Stereo 91.1. Personality and diversity are the elements which will make WPLT—FM standout Devotion to a promise, a dream, an illusion, that being Open-Air FM, has been the driving force behind WPLPs desire and persistence to offer this medium to Pittsburgh.
