NTA Presents Ibsen's A Doll House by Tammy Mitchell Beginning April 25th the Department of Theatre and NTA. will present Henrik Ibsen's play, \A Doll House.\ Directed by Dr. Daniel Watermeier, the play will star Janet Walsh as Nora, Jeff King as Torvald Helmer, Jeff Thompson as Nils Krogstad, Cheryl Rivera as Mrs. Kristine Linde, Steven Soulia as Dr. Rank, and Aaron Watermeier, Ethan Watermeier, and Karen Duley, as the three Helmer children. The story is basically about Nora who believes her husband to be totally devoted to her, only to find out that he is not. She then leaves her husband and children to find herself. It is a tale of people oppressed by society, of people unfulfilled, and of people who are strangers to themselves. According to Dr. Watermeier, the drama is vitally revelant to our modern society which is in many ways steered clearly away from the individual. It often seems as if democratic society merely pays lip service to the concept to personal freedom. Nora's dilemma becomes modern man's dilemma—how does one find oneself in such an oppressive society? In this way Ibsen's play, wtitten in the I880's is directly related to the feminist movement which strives for freedom for all people. In the traditional interpretation of the play it is Nora, the frail, child-like female, who is the doll living in the doll house; but actually, all the characters are dolls—treating each other and themselves as such since they never had the chance to become anything else. \A Doll House\ is a play of ideas important to today's world, a play of drama and passion, a play which should be seen for its revelance to our lives and for the promise of high-quality entertainment. U A Doll House\ will be presented April 25, 26, 27, 28, and 29, at 8:00 p.m. in Hartman Theatre. It is sponsored in part by the mandatory SA fee. .he Department of Theatre / and N.T.A. The second course, Production Action Arts, (PED 465) is a semi-extension of Basic Action Arts and will end with the performance of \Spectrum *79.\ The courses themselves are open to all students and do not require any experience. Director Seerup Views the cast as \enthusiastic\ and \hard working.\ According to Seerup, the show cost S1700 to produce, and except for \problems— with the S.A. concerning money allocations, everything is running smoothly. \People worked really hard for this,\ says Seerup. \And I think it come up to past years performances or better. I urge people to get their tickets early because it's going to be one hell of a show.\ Each ninety minute performance will be divided into two parts. The first part will start with mass tumbling, done to the tune of \Rocky and will end with a syncro mini- tramp exhibition. After intermission, part two will commence with \Free Swing\ and finish the evening off with a bit entitled, \Qratet\. In the film \Sambizanga the political issue of the Angolan resistance is pertinent; but it is the univeriality of human anguish that is emphasized. Sambizanga in the district of Luanda, the capitol to Angola, a Portuguese province, and the place of the first Angolan uprising on February 4, 1961. Fighting to bring 5 million blacks from under the rule of whites, from under the repression of the colonial government, the film reveals the larger, universal message of human suffering.
