p«g« 8. Cardinal Points. April 86.1879 Election Tuesday for Executive V. P. Ken Yergens I feel that the biggest asset I would bring to the office of Executive Vice-President is experience, the second being a standing record of Senate actions which reflect, above all, a great concern for the total student body at Pittsburgh, and, thirdly, a deep seated committment to the idea that this total student body must be represented by the Student Association. I have been a member of the senate for two semesters now, being most recently elected in the December balloting. During this time, I have gained a good working knowledge of the PSUC student government, including its constitution, legislation, and its implementation, the basics of finances and the Judicial system. I have observed the approaches to the position taken by two prior V.P/s, and have gained a tremendous insight of the job through this. As a senator, my initial concern has always been to the studi ms, directly. I have always strived to put students needs above policy dictates, and issues of beancracy. I chaited the committee which, iast semester, designed a survey which was distributed among our population, the purpose being to reflect the student views on the \Olympic break\ to the administration. Without this, no student feedback at all would have gone into this vital decision, concerning all of us at P.S.U.C. This semester, I chaired on the committee to oppose the possible tuition increase for the SUNY system. As a result, Pittsburgh was one of the major state schools taking substantial action in this area. Over IJOO letters were sent to various state legislators, urging their help. Letters were sent to all students parents dealing with this issue. Senator Racette, Senator Havcrly, and myself personally contacted several businesses, legislators, and other SUNY schools asking their assistance. I have also been a major opponent of the SASU organization, helping Senator Beyer on her investigation committee. As a result, Chairman Stewart has suggested a number of very satisfactory alternatives to the type of rather incompetent representation SASU offered. I would welcome the opportunity to work with soon to be President Stewart on this project. In closing, 1 would like to say that we, here at PSUC, have an excellent, highly skilled Senate. Experienced, informed leadership is crucial to their continued operation. If elected, all students will be heard, agendas will be kept flexible, and news of S.A. business will be student business. Unfair decisions from higher agencies will not go uncallenged. You will not hear such desparaging remarks such as, \Of course he can do it, he's the College President,** with no rational explanation. Thank you and I would appreciate your support on May 1st. Ann Beyer As a Student Association Senator, and Chairman of a Senate Committee, 1 feel that 1 have gamed valuable experience in the workings of <nir student government. With mv experience in the positions of Senator, Orientation leader, and Resident Assistant. I have become aware and knowledgable of the interests of many -factions\ of our student body. 1 feel that this awareness will aid me in guiding the Student Association Senate towards actions which are in the best interest of Pittsburgh State Students. As a junior rext fall, unlike a number of other candidates who will be seniors, or grad students. 1 can offer you a luture of experienced leadership which is so important in maintaining continuitv Ted Heidrich After considerable thought as to where I could perform more effectively in representing the needs of the student population, I have decided to run for the position of Executive Vice President as the expense of vacating my position on the S. A. Senate* As Ex Officio to the Finance Board I have gained a tremendous insight into the financial aspects of the S. A. At a time when the budget is more strained than ever due to inflation and the growth of the S.A. recognized groups on campus, I feel that it is imperative for the Exec. V.P. to have a working knowledge and understanding of the financial matters of the S.A. One of the main duties of the Exec. V.P. is to preside over the Student Senate. I believe that I can successfully exercise the guidance, direction and control necessary to maintain an atmosphere that will encourage both a high level, of competence and the quality representation that the students of this campus are entitled to expect from their representatives. My record while serving on Rob France Since being elected to represent the student body as a Senator, I feel that I have worked in the best interest of all of us here at Pittsburgh. The primary role of the Executive Vice President is to preside over all meetings of the Senate In this capacity an effective working rapport with the Senate, and the entire student body is essential. Having gained a real working knowledge of Student Association affairs, 1 am confident that 1 can perform the duties of Executive Vice President with excellence. If elected, I will work to the best of my ability and continue and improve upon the kind os leadership with which the Senate has worked so well. the Senate speaks for itself, I have also participated in a variety of social, academic and athletic endeavors on campus including Macomb Dorm Council, the J.D. Board and the cross country and track team. I am willing to invest as much time and energy as is necessary to successfully fulfill the position of Exec. V.P. I strongly urge all Student Association members to vote this Tuesday, May 1. 8 throughout the Student Association. This is vital in conserving the stability of our student government here at Plattsburgh. Please remember to vote on Tuesday, and when you do remember to vote for the future of the Student Association.
