*j.rB M^»nf, cartmJrH&ot*: AW^f Bike-a-thon nets $6,000 The brothers of Psi Epsilon Chi Fraternity Still, Benoit was lencouraged about the held their Annual Bike-a-thon Saturday for the benefit of the Clinton County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. A total of 282 riders from Plattsburgh, Champlain, Saranac and Peru raised slightly over $6000 for their efforts. The Bike-a-thon began around 11:30 a.m. at the Plattsburgh Middle School on Broad St. Riders continued on to Cumberland Head School. Once on Cumberland Head participants could ride around the Head as many times as they wanted to rack up mileage. When they left the Head they returned to the Middle School. During the Bike-a-thon the brothers were aided in traffic control and monitoring of the riders by REACT, a CB group, and the Sergeant's Association of Plattsburgh Air Force Base. Refreshments and prizes, including bicycles for the top pledgers of each area, were provided by McDonald's Restaurants, WOMETCO Bottling Co., North-End Bike Repair, Kings, Grand Way an$ Montgomery Wards. Joe Benoit, a co-chairman of the event, said that the $6000 figure is exactly that much lest tlan was raised last year, $12,000. The reason for this, said Benoit, is that local elementary school kids (who comprised the majority of the riders) were out on vacation the two weeks following Easter and did not have enough time to get money sponsors. Benoit said that the date for the Bike-a-thon was set long ago, before the school calendar was settled and the timing conflict arose Phi U initiates Phi Upsilon Omicron, a National Honorary Professional Society in home economics, hfcid its semiannual initiation of new members on sttnday, A£ril 8. The Broadcaster's and Journalist's Guild was formed to present mass media majors with more opportunities to get involved in their major. Many mass media majors simply take the courses and get no experience, and it is hoped that this new union will alleviate that problem. The Frisbee Club, consisting of 40-50 members, was formed mainly so that the players can request the use of the Field House for play!
