MORGAN Award The Northport Police Department has won the American Automobile Association's Gold Community Award for traffic safety. The Department was cited for its many traffic safety efforts including its bicycle safety and aggres- sive driving enforcement programs. The Department was presented with a Pedestnan Safety Commendation for having 31 years without a pedestrian fatality. This is the sixth consecutive year that Northport Police has been the recipient of this presti- gious award. Chief of Police Eric Bruckenthal told the Times, \This award is gratefully accepted, and I would like it to be known that it was through the combined efforts of all the members of the Northport Police team that we were singled out for the sixth ume in a row. The Northport Police Department serves the community whole-heartedly with total professional commitment. Since traffic and pedestn- an safety as well as law enforcement itself are integral parts of this depart- ment's commitment to the people of Northport we are doubly grateful for the award.\ Criminal mischief Criminal mischief was the reported offense on November 17 at 1:17 pm on Markan Drive. Male complainant told police unknown(s) had thrown a brick through a small rear window of his home. The matter was classified as fourth degree, an A misdemeanor. There were no witnesses or suspects. Suspicious circumstance One occured on November 17 at 8:04 am on Main Street on the grounds of the First Presbyterian Church. A white 2002 Suburu was observed parked in the area behind the church with one occu- pant. When police unit arrived the vehi- cle was seen leaving the area. The other was on Scudder Avenue where, on November 16 at 10:46 pm,. more unknowns were reporied ringing neigh- bors' doorbells. Responding police unit searched the area, but did not come up with anything suspicious. Suspicious vehicle A suspicious vehicle report was issued on November 16 at 11:24 pm on Sir Kenneth's Court near Harbor Point Road. It was identified as a blue 2004 Jaguar X-type. A female caller had told police it was parked near her residence, and she considered it suspicious. On arrival police interviewed the occupant, a male who said he was on a conference call and had pulled over to the side of the road to finish the call. Police officer responding advised complainant of this. ._ Disturbance At 6:56 am on November 14 on Main Street near June Avenue a rabid raccoon was observed in complainant's back yard. Police responded, but the ailing masked intrud- er had crawled away. On Main Street on November 15 at 4:53 pm Troop F of the skateboard squadron was out rolling and fighting. Police unit searched the locale, but the troop had dispersed. A platoon of youths was reported tramping noisily through a wooded area on Fifth Avenue at 9:02 pm on November 14. Responding unit checked the area, but the sylvan spirits had made off. Another formation of male youths was reported imbibing alcoholic beverages on November 14 at 7:16 pm on Fort Salonga Road in the parking lot of a restaurant. Complainant was anony- mous, but the reputed tipplers were gone when police arrived. On Jay Court near Dogwood Road on November 13 at 35 minutes past midnight vehicles were reported racing. A search was conduct- ed, but yielded no results. A lone mem- ber of skateboard Troop K was spoited on Laurel Avenue on grounds of the Laure! Avenue School. This time the boarder was confronted by responding officer, and told to leave the area. He did. In the reporting coverage area there dents. No injuries. Editorial. .. ..... .............
