Courtyard opens at Northport Public Library Dedication planned for next year; patrons impressed by meeting space BY ELISE PEARLMAN A little more than a year ago an outdoor enhancement to the Northport Library in the form of a 90th Anniversary Courtyard was just a concept. On November 2, the courtyard opened, to the delight of the patrons who immediately began using the beautiful space. As she looked over the courtyard with its inviting cir- cular spaces, library Director Stephanie Heineman said that she was thrilled with \how the community rallied together\ to support the endeavor. \It was all done through donations. This project got done through com- munity giving.\ Heineman said that the library plans to dedicate the courtyard on May 7, when a plaque recognizing donors will be unveiled. Ruth and Alex McKay of Eaton's Neck were among the first patrons to appreciate the library's new addition. \Usually things don't live up to your expectations,\ Ruth said, \This exceeded them.\ Alex was equally enthusias- tic as he marveled over the beautiful stonework. \It did- n't cost the taxpayers a cent,\ he exclaimed. Bob Smith of East Northport remembered when the courtyard was only in the idea stage. \I saw the designs, but I had no idea that it would work out so well.\ Smith said he is particularly pleased with the stonework. \It was very well thought out and well done,\ he said. \It follows the personality of the building, and the slope of the land leads your eyes to the courtyard. I'm Parents plead for child development Munson: school board hasn't considered cutting the class BY ELIZABETH W. SOBEL On Monday night, Board President Arlene Munson addressed a rumor that has been circulating about the high school's childhood development class. I find this area to be very relaxing.\ Looking forward to the dedication ceremony, he said, \'The courtyard will be very well-received by the com- munity.
