F H \C Mostly boats and beaches Art fleet docked in Village Hall through fall BY ELISE PEARLMAN Last Sunday the Northport Ars Coalition (NAC) hosted the opening of its fourth annual art exhibit in the Northport Village Hall. The show, entitled Local Color from Local Artists, features a med- ley of work ranging from oils, acrylics and watercolors to collage. Village Hall has proven to bean excel- lent venue forthe display of local talent, NAC chairwoman Isabella Eredita Johnson said. \It gets a fot of traffic,\ Eredita Johnson said. Artists give a primanily nautical theme a different spin with styles including mim- malism, impressionism and realism. Many artists focused on boats or beach scenes. \We are Long Island,\ Hatfield said. \We're surrounded by water so it 1s not surprising that it turned up in a lot of peo ple's work although 1 didn't specifically call for it.\ She added that the exhibit took on a peaceful and cohesive tone as a result. Hatfield's oil painting, Harbor at Woodbine, is anode to the view provided by a cottage on Woodbine Avenue where she once lived. The painting, framed by a flock of Canadian geese that were \fre- :a > lative distri quent visitors\® and a weeping willow, captures the resplendent colors of a late summer sunset. Janet Simpson's acrylw. 7 dreamt of Boats with Eves is a bold, impressionist view of vessels affoat in a bright blue sea. Hatfield explained that Simpson's clever use of collage. by which pieces of canvas are glued on to a larger canvas. augments the perception of depth.
