L E1Ss U R E See a slice of Brookhaven town history The Battle of Fort St. George is to be re-enacted in Mastic More than 100 members of the Brigade of the American Revolution from all over the northeast will convene at the Manor of St. George in Sturley on Saturday and Sunday. October 29 ard 30 There they will set up camp, and - portraying both Bnitish and patriot troops - they wall re-enact the historic Battle of Fort St. George. which took place in November of 1780. This was a three-pronged raid by 60 patnots on the manor. which had been fortified and turned into Fort St. George by its Brush occupien. The public is invited to experience this slice of Brookhaven Tow n history from 10 am to 4 pm both days The bngade's schedule includes nmuktary dalls. artillery and tactical weapons demonstrations. whaleboat exercis- es and of fife and drum music In addi- von, Tennesse¢ folksinger Jennifer Richardson will sing folk songs and ballads from the 18th century, and Susan and Stephen Sanfilippo will play the nautical music of Long Island. Also at the site wall be an ox-drawn Conestoga wagon, craft demonstrations and tours of the Smuth family cemetery. Admission 1s free Bob Winow itch of Lake Grove is a member of the 3rd New York Regiment, Long Island Company. a unit of the Brigade. Historcally, the regiment originated on the island in 1775 Winowitch has been involved with the bngade for over 30 years. \As a child. I read a lot. and 1 always wanted a musket.
