Assemblyman Andy Raia, George W. Lewisy Jr. and Donald Burch Diplomas awarded through Operation Recognition Assemblyman Andy Raia awarded high school diplomas to Northport native George W. Lewisy Jr. and Asharoken resident Donald Burch as part of Operation Recognition, which honors the sacrifices made by veter- ans who left their high schools before graduating to fight in World War II and the Korean War. The program recognizes the wealth of knowledge and life experiences veterans realized during their time in the military and after their service to the country. 'Operation Recognition is part of state legislation allow- ing veterans who served in World War II or the Korean War to obtain their high school diplomas if they attend- ed, but did not graduate from, a New York state-based high school.
