1 Age samen Partnerships on playbill for theater renovation New owner and communiozgather to discuss theater's uses, funding BY ELISE PEARLMAN Last Wednesday Dennis Tannenbaum, owner of the Northport Theater, and the Northport Arts Coalition (NAC) hosted a coffee reception for Legislator Jon Cooper. As Tannenbaum ushered Cooper and Northport community members through the theater's facilities. Tannenbaum discussed his plans for the bunlding's use, with the goal of exploring the possibihtres of muntic- ipal support for the Northport Theater and its programs. Tannenbaum recalled the 73-year-old theater's venerable history. indicating that. during its early days, the theater had a small vaudeville stage and performers donned their costumes in the basement It is Tannenbaum's hope that \the doors {of the theater] wall open for live performances\ ance more. Tannenbaum's proposal to renovate the theater would allow for expansion of the stage and the extension of the present mezzanine area. In addinon, his plans provide for a second stage on the third floor and a \swing room\ or multipurpose room that could be used for screenings and community functions. Tannenbaum hopes that in tume the theater will serve 50,000 people a year.
