There will be a free gift for all donors. and WALK, B103 and Island 94.3 radio stations wall be on hand to play games and hand out prizes St. Charles Hospital receives stroke center designation St: Charles Honpital in Port Jetterson has been designated a Stroke Center by the New York State Department of Health This designation signifies that patents with a presumptive diagnoss of stroke will be brought directly to St. Charles Hospital by emergency medical services. New Primary Stroke Centers were created in order to improve access to quality and the standard of care for stroke patients. With stroke, swift treat- ment can greatly improve overall patient outcome and prevent disability and possibly even death. Current treat- ment for stroke includes administering the clot-busting medication rt-PA. However, this medication is most effec- tive when begun within three hours of the onset of symptoms. - According to the American Stroke Association, more than 95 percent of patients who suffer stroke do not amve at the hospital in ume to be considered for this treatment. Selected hospitals designated as prima- ry stroke centers wall result in a signifi cant immcréase in the number of patients armving at the hospital in ume to be administered rt- PA. This program was established to help parents build upon their parenting skills. With the seven principles of discipline that are presented, parents are discover- ing new and alternative ways of helping their children in today's society.
