in in More than one hundred ways to wine and dine Rotary's charity extravaganza has booked 70 wineries, 40 eateries, two breweries BY ELISE PEARLMAN On August 11, the Rotary Club of Northport will host its ninth annual Wine in the Courtyard on the Vanderbilt Museum grounds in Centerport overlook- The yearly extravaganza, which is a major charitable event, has the distinction of being the largest outdoor wine-tasting event on the easter seaboard, said John Weber, a Rotarian and owner of Port to - Port Wine and Spirits of Northport. Weber, who has been involved with the i event since its inception, said that the ° manicured and rambling museum grounds and courtyards provide the ambiance of an elegant Califorma estate. making it the perfect venue for a wine tasting. Weber, who booked 70 wine distribu- tors, noted that \these are not your ordi- nary wines,\ but a \broad spectrum ~ of ~- regional and international offenngs from Calforma, France. Italy, Chile. Argentina, and Spain. \Local talent\ from 11 or 12 Long Island winenes, will also be repre- sented. In addition. there wall be other deli- cious spints. including cograc. brandy and bourbon. ard high-end vodka. chilled by ice sculptures There will be cham- pagne and beer from two local brewenes. Jim Ryan. president of the Rotary Club, expects guests to be thrilled by food from 40 top restaurants from across Huntington and Smuthtown, each featur- ing \its own unique tasting opportunity.\ Culinary entries include sushi, pasta dish- es, a steak barbecue, and gourmet food wraps. Guests may also enjoy sumptuous desserts that include baked goods and spe- cralty ice creams. \You'll delight your palate with adventurous cusine.\ Ryan added. Tickets for Wine in the Courtyard are $100 per person and, as Weber noted, \For £100, you couldn't eat or drink like this anywhere else.\ The funds couldn't go to a better cause. Wright said that it costs about $4,000 to save a child. For the Rotanans, it is most gratifying to see the dramatic and also immediate changes in the children's condition after surgery. Wight sard that a $5,000 check will be presented to The Gift of Life at the event. Holcomb notes that there are about 60 Rotary Clubs across Long fstand and between 35-50 children jare saved each year thanks to their efforts.
