It began on Sat- urday with a home game against perennially tough Saratoga. Guilderland led throughout, but couldn't really pull away from the Blue Streaks until Billy Floyd hit a buzzer beater three-pointer at the end of the first half to make the score 34 to 21. In the second half the GBC offense started clicking and the Youth Basketball League. The game was a thriller from start to finish, with Guilderland fighting and clawing for an early lead that, it would netrer relin- quish. Guilderland's Matt Ce- rutti and Vincent Simeone were unstoppable, hitting clutch shots every time Albany threatened to take the lead. Suneone ; finished with a sea- son-high. 21 points,, and Cerutti had 19, Bpthfplayers were nearly perfect on their many trips to Dutchmen rolled to a 65 to 45 victory. The second half provided one of the top highlights of the seasqn with an ESPN-worthy blocked shot by Connor O'Brien that electrified the crowd. Three players finished with double..figures.in the scoring col- umn, led by Micaiah Henningham with 15 points. Jamil Hood added 11 points and Floyd scored 10. Rounding out the scoring were Matt Cerutti and Marc duMoulin with nine points each. On Sunday it was a show- down with the Albany Falcons at the North Albany YMCA. Guilderland and Albany went into the game tied for first place in the Capital District the foul line, and Simeone added several three-ppintprs. Hood con- sistently beat Albany's tenacious defensive pressure, and he added 11 points. DordhTucker also hit several clutch shots and finished with 12 points. Marc duMoulin and Billy Floyd had two points each and Micaiah Henningham had one point. Henningham, Cerutti, duMoulin and Jake Smith Con- stantly crashed the boards and managed to Put-rebound the taller Falcons. The GBC squad, coached by Ralph Simeone and Dave Cerutti, goes into the holiday break atop the CDYBL standings with an 8-0 record. St. Lucy's Junior Girls CYO win home opener against Sacred Heart Tyksinski (3), Taylor DeMorree (2) and Brittney Pulliam (2). The girls played hard-nosed defense, keeping Sacred Heart in check with five points in the final fifteen minutes. Contributing to the outstanding defensive, team effort were Mary Jean Mulligan, Oliver Aitken, Abigail Kedik and Emily Nicki. The Saints host its next game against St. Pius on Dec. 27 at 5 p.m. at the Peter Young Center. GUILDERLAND 7 — The St. Lucy's Saints Junipr Girls wop their home opener 21-14 over Siacred Heart of Castleton. After being down 9 to 6 in the first half, the offense ignited for fifteen second half points to come away with the win. The scoring was lead by Dela- ney Martin who scored all of her game-leading 10 points in the . pivotal second half.
