The Altamont Enterprise T Thursday, December 7,2006 Breakfast for the Angel Park and Choices 301 program To the Editor: On Saturday, Dec. 9, the Alta- mont Community Tradition (ACT) will sponsor a breakfast at Cindy and Jack Pollard's Home Front Cafe, beginning at 10:30 a.m. to honor the work of Ed and Shirley Frank of Alta- mont, and the Choices 301 program, a non-profit organiza- tion with a mission to educate and inform youth about safe driving practices and making the right choices when they get behind the wheel. Choices 301 was formed in memory of the Franks' son, Ed, a 19-year veteran of the Colonie Police Department, whose badge number was 301. ^ACT will present a plaque to the Franks to be placed on one of the new park benches in the Angel Park in Altamont. The Angel Park and Angel of Hope were created as a place to honor and remember loved ones, especially children, who have passed away. The cost of the breakfast is $10 and advance reservations are required. Please respond no later than Friday, Dec. 8, by calling me at 861-0243. Linda Cure Altamont Community Tradition Coverage inspired help for cemetery, more needed To the Editor: We'd like to take this oppor- tunity again to thank you for your editorial and for Rachel Dutil's article on the New Scotland Cemetery. Shortly thereafter, we held an open evening meeting at the New Scotland Town Hall fol- lowed by a Saturday work day. Due to your article, we had a few extra helpers who were greatly appreciated. Among those represented were three generations of the Youmans family. The timing of this coordinated with the town clean-up pro- gram. All the brush that was cut down was also disposed of efficiently thanks to the New Scotland Highway Department. We have had people sign up to help gather names, dates, and information from the head- stones. This will enable us to have an accurate account of the persons buried there. We can still use more assistance gathering information if anyone wants to volunteer. We are planning another work day in the spring to continue cleaning up the overgrowth of trees and underbrush. We will be looking for more volunteers then. Thank you for your help in bringing awareness of our need to the public. As a result of the rainy weather and wet conditions, the grant work has been progres- sing slowly. We appreciate everyone's patience during this construction phase; rest assured the grounds and roads will be returned to their original state when the work is complete. Unrelated to the grant work, the cemetery also had ditching, culvert, and road work done. This was to address the ongoing water problems in the cemetery. The New York State Grant we received does not pay for this additional work or any of our yearly mowing expenses. We mention this because our donations were down 70 percent this year. The cemetery con- tinues to exist through the kindness and giving of others. We are trying to maintain the resting place of our loved ones and slowly improve the ceme- tery as well. This is impossible without your help. Please help in any way you can. Donations may be sent to: Fairview Cemetery, Post Office Box 375, Altamont, NY 12009.
