The Mtamont Enterprise-Thursday, August 17,2006'' I\ ' I ' \V • ••••—••• I fl.K — — „t ..—.J,-—... . !»• r~~r Israel is nqt responsible for the current crisis To the Editor ' A house on Route 156 now^ displays a large sign stating \Stop the^ Massacre m Gaza and Lebanon\ This statement is similar to *the type of; propa- ganda offered by the terrorist groups Hezbollah and Hamas Why don't the sign's authors say anything about the massacre of Israelis by terrorist rocket fire from Lebanon' Hezbollah and Hamas terrorists intentionally hide among civilians and shoot rockets from civilian areas The supposed massacres in Lebanon and Gaza as claimed by the sign's authors are due to the terrorists tactics, not due to Israel's intent Israel does not purposely attack civilians as do Hezbollah and Hamas. It is outrageous and incorrect for the authors to refer to the deaths in Lebanon and Gaza in thecourseofIsrael's self-defense as massacres. Hezbollah and Hamas intentionally want these Lebanese and Palestinian civil- ian deaths as their method to sway world opinion against Israel.... Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East, unilaterally withdrew from Gaza last year an,d from southern Lebanon,in, 2(000 to internationally-recog- nized borders and wishes only to haye peace but, in-return, re- ceives more terrorist attacks Israel has a legitimate right to defend itself and is attacking the terrorist targets and the infra- structure that supplies them .Prior to^$ept 11, gOOl^Hez- bollah murdered more Ameri- cans than a,ny other terrorist group and has over the years beeji responsible for more than 200 terrorist attacks Hezbollah, Hamas, and Iran do no$ want peace* and they have specifically stated that they are determined to destroy Israel According to United States intelligence reports, Iran gives HezboUah arpun;dy$100.milli0n a year and-provides them with soph1sticatedssiea;ponsj;S^stenls;|^j For thp'-.pa'st ,.siX'yearsi:lraii- , 'haS-? s| transported rockets and other' weapons through Syria into Lebanon in preparation for this current crisis. These countries and the terrorist groups, not Israel, are responsible for this crisis.
