'•' • ':' \ __ :* ; i aioi ! : ; : lp • T • • i • J ' - Altamont By Eileen McKenney On Tuesday, March 14, we Altamont Seniors gathered at St. Lucy's Parish Center for ~ the regular weekly luncheon, fol- lowing our singing of the doxo- logy.-Actually, this was far from a regular luncheon. • It was the corned-beef-and- cabbage dinner, prepared by Cynthia Bertrand's daughter, DeeDee. It was a delicious meal, and take-home containers were provided for many who found the generous portions a little challenging. Chocolate-mint ice cream with shamrock-decorated cookies were served for our dessert. Jean Betlejeski was served her dessert as we sang \Happy Birthday.\ A second birthday was recognized: Terry Mooney's four-footed furry feline, Patty, whose birthday is on March 17. There was a lot of wearin' of the green. Terry was a picture, wearing a greatly-oversized hat similar in style to what you might see on a leprechaun, that is, if you were to see one. Terry was accompanied by her husband, Ed, sporting a lot of green, topped off with a jaunty green derby. They were really into the spirit of the early St. Patrick's Day celebration. Contributing to the fun was Brother Anthony, playing ap- propriate music on his accor- dion, before and after lunch, and many of us joined in singing. We thank him again for sharing his talent with us. Tables were decorated with shamrock-print covers, vases of green and white carnations, and lighted candles in green holders. The flowers were given to a person at each table, selected by drawing of names. Earlier in the afternoon, before lunch, Rose Cargill brought us up to date on news from our absent members. Anna Bell had returned to the hospital; Nida Thomas also, with her broken arm; Alice Parks is hospitalzed with pneumonia; and Ann Panting went into the hospital on Saturday, and is having tests to determine the cause of her situation. Mourning Alma Sadly, Alma Heidinger, who was reported at Mercy Care last week, suffered a stroke and died on Friday. Her wake was held on Monday. In her memory, several mo- ments of silence were observed before proceeding with the dox- ology. Alma was a lovely lady, liked by everyone. She never missed a Tuesday with us, and enjoyed her time with the Seniors. We will miss her friendly per- sonality, and ever-present smile. We are currently concerned about so many with serious ill- nesses. Coming up This Thursday, March 16, a group of the Seniors will be picked up at the parish center by school bus at 6:15 p.m, — please note time change — for the Guilderland High School pro- duction of Steel Pier. The menu for next week's March 21 lunch will be cheese ravioli with spaghetti sauce, Italian bread, tossed salad and pineapple. Helen Marion, at 861- 5278, and Stan Dean, at 861- 6030, hope to hear from those who were not with us this week to sign up arid are planning to attend next week's luncheon, on Sunday, March 19.
