Well over a hundred people at tended the event which .ran (ran 3 pm to 6 p.m.. to sample local v food. Saratoga Apple products, and participate in a silent auction of local goods in support of Gar ricks. who was recently diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer Since (iarricks' work visa stipu lates he must work in order to stay in the U.S., and since his treatment will cost far more than he can af ford — in time and money — a coalition of friends and support ers has come together to help Gar ricks raise money for treatments and travel costs for his family back in Saint Catherine. Jamaica. Gairricks hopes to bring his wife up to stay with him as he under goes treatment. Garricks has worked seasonally at Saratoga Ap ple for 18 years, and he says medi cal care here is much better than it would be in his home country of Jamaica. All proceeds from Sara toga Apple's regular sales on that day went directly to the Joseph Garricks Fund. Garricks himself was at the event, surrounded by well-wish- ers and happy to see so much sup port “it's really wonderful \Garricks said. “I'm very blessed.” Garricks later went on to thank those who came out to ofler their support and to stress his thankfulness for the strength of his faith. Organizer Bill Reynolds said the event raised at least 14.000 dollars, which will go to a special checking account at Glens Falls National Bank. According to Reyn olds, Garricks is “Presently under going drug therapy with a visit to his doctor scheduled for 2 weeks from now.
