March 1 New Moxey Rigby apartments announced Police SUV hijacked and crashed o a. I CO ai\ CM On March 3, the Freeport Housing Authority announced that it would build a 101-unit apartment building to replace the outdated Moxey Rigby apartments on Buffalo Avenue. Georgica Green Ventures will build the new apartment complex, called the \New Moxey Rigby,\ just west of the current site on East Merrick Road and Buffalo Avenue. The project is being funded with federal and state money as well as assistance from the Governor's Office of Storm Recovery and the Depart- ment of Housing and Urban Develop- ment. The estimated cost for construction for the new development is about $30 mil- lion, according to John Hrvatin, executive director of the Freeport Housing Authori- ty Sue Greico/Herald MAYOR ROBERT KENNEDY and John Hrvatin at a news conference on March 3 April Fatality at Freeport station, April 14 A 40-year-old man was fatally struck by a Long Island Rail Road train at the Free- port station on April 10, shortly before 8 a.m. Freeport firefighters Lt. Kevin Etter, Lt. Donald Rowan Jr., Ex-Capt. Scott Braun, firefighter Steve Scrivano and Capt. Ralph Saint Eloi made their way to the LIRR platform to assist the victim. \They were forced to operate in a prone position due to the limited space under the train\ Ray Maguire, executive direc- tor of the Freeport Fire Department said. Firefighters then \packaged and maneu- vered the victim under and up and onto the station platform,\ he said. Firefight- ers brought the victim down to an await- ing Nassau County Police Department ambulance. The victim was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he died. Courtesy of John Scales! ANDREW HOWARD CRASHED a Freeport Police SUV on Babylon Road in Merrick on March 10 around 10:10 p.m. police said. Howard managed to hijack the SUV and sped off before Nassau and Freeport police caught up with him. He was arrested and charged- with grand larceny, possession of a weapon and a battery of other charges. RED DEVILS ROBOTICS Team competed in U.R.
