FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25,2009 7 Arts and Entertainment Dear Liz, I am 20 years old and admit that I am still a virgin. The worst part is the response that ladies have when I tell them: the last three women I have dated have dumped me after finding out I have never had sex. I don’t know how I am supposed to get any experience when nobody will date me. What should I do? Sincerely, Too Pure, Need a Cure f)jzar Too pure, fl man’s sgxual experience i§ one way he tells the world that he is, well, a man. fllthough women insist on not liking'players, they do want a man they believe knows what he is doing in bed. It is an illusion though to think that virgins cannot know their way around the bedroom, your father, forefathers, and yes even the cavemen before you figured out how to have sex for the first time on their own. Instead of focusing on your own virginity, whieh is clearly only eausing you frustration, focus your attention towards learning about the female body and what gives a woman pleasure, if you can turn a woman on, she will not care if you are a,virgin, or even bother to ask. find if she doesn’t ask, then you should not feel required to tell her. fl little mystery ean g o a long way. I hope your future relationships are much happier; g ood luck. As an adaptation of a book, it has to balance being loyal to the story with being original and entertaining. It has to build off of the book while preserving what made it special. And it does just that. One of the most important innovations is the cast of characters that are unique to the fim. They are voiced by Bill Hader (SNL), Anna Faris (Scary Movie 1-4), and Mr. T ( TheA-Team ). The success of the film is largely due to them and their supporting actors. Gone is the grandfather reading his grandchildren a bedtime story about the small town of Chewandswallow. The movie begins with the main character, hapless inventor Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) in his hometown of Swallow Falls. Since childhood, his one dream was to be a famous inventor. He finally finds success in an incredible invention that converts water into food. At this point in the film, the ihfluenceof thebookreally comes through.'The animation is beautiful. Anyone who has read the The film is cute, it’s funny, and it’s worth seeing. A classic children’s tale is transformed into a classic movie. Photo courtesy of: http://www.impawards.com book will recognize the scene in which an impossibly large pancake envelops a school and the scene where sailboats are constructed out of stale sandwiches and pizza. The golden Jell-o sunset is like nothing seen on screen before. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is geared toward a young audience. With a rating of PG for mild language and a mere 90 minute run time, it’s obviously kid friendly. That does not mean adults won’t enjoy the extremely humorous story, supported by imagery incomparable to any other film. It’s the perfect balance of finding the inspiration from the book and the innovation of the film that makes it a really great viewing experience for everyone. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is a really fun, enjoyable movie. There are genuinely funny moments that make it really special. Of particular note is Mr. Ts performance, who’s last appearance on screen was seven years ago. The film is cute, it’s funny, and it’s worth seeing. A classic children’s tale is transformed into a classic movie. 4/5 stars. Garfield Minus Garfield Who would have guessed that when you remove Garfield from the Garfield comic strips, the result is ah even better comic about schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and the empty desperation of modern life? Friends, meet Jon Arbuckle, Let’s laugh and learn with, him oh a journey deep into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against' loneliness in a quiet American suburb. oijse iii^^yntcjwri Geneva ! r ^ . .M
